This is, actually, a complicated subject.
How much intimidation is really placed on politicians by Unions? We could call in "coercion" or the more friendly "influence" - but it's all the same thing.
But, don't discount the campaign contributions, lobbying, and other pressures placed on politicians by corporations and special interest groups. I suspect that unions play only a small part, and perhaps an important one in balancing the other groups.
